Madurai,

Rathinavel took charge as the dean of Madurai Government Medical College again yesterday after the controversy over the acceptance of students’ pledge. He thanked First Minister MK Stalin.

Pledge controversy

Rathinavel, who was the dean of the medical college, was transferred to the waiting list due to a controversy over the use of Sanskrit words during the acceptance of pledge for first year students at the Madurai Government Medical College.

A departmental inquiry was held into the matter. Director of Medical Education Narayana Babu also came in person and conducted an inquiry with Dean Rathinavelle et al.

Following this, the Minister of People’s Welfare Ma Subramaniam addressed the assembly and announced that the Madurai Dean would be given the same responsibility again.

Responsibility again

Following this, Rathinavel took charge again as Dean in the Madurai Government Medical College Principal’s Room yesterday.

He later told reporters, “The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Madurai Government Medical College on the 30th. What was in Sanskrit was translated into English and read by the student council administrators. They did it without consulting anyone.

It was only when reading the pledge on stage that the college administration came to know of its error. For the mistake that took place on that day, the Director of Medical Education, on the 3rd of last month, investigated all the college administration, professors, student council administrators and submitted a report to the government. Similarly, I also explained to Minister Ma Subramaniam that this had happened by mistake. We also express our condolences on behalf of the Madurai Medical College.

Thanks to the First-Minister

The Minister brought it to the attention of the First-Minister. Because of that and because of our service the government has offered me the opportunity to work as a dean again. Accordingly I take charge as the Dean of Madurai Government Medical College. I would like to thank the First Minister for his immediate decision and compassionate order. I would like to thank the Ministers who recognized our work and provided assistance and all those who assisted. I will continue to strive for medical college and hospital development with new impetus.

Thus he said.
