Ratingen (NRW) – A deep ravine in a remote forest near Ratingen (Mettmann district) almost became a death trap for a man (35). The fire brigade only finds him thanks to cell phone location and saves him with great effort.

The emergency call came shortly after midnight: the crashed person just managed to call the fire brigade with his mobile phone. According to his own statement, the 35-year-old sat on a tree stump and then slipped.

The fire brigade located the approximate position of the man using the smartphone and alerted other rescue units. Using a mobile phone connection, the emergency services on site then managed to find the exact accident site away from the paved paths.

Complicated rescue on a slope

The crew of an ambulance and the emergency doctor vehicle climbed to the crashed person via detours. “Because of his increased body weight and possible injuries, a complex rescue was initiated,” said a fire department spokesman.

A comprehensive safety rope was set up for the injured person and for the emergency services, and the man could be pulled up the steep slope with a basket stretcher. “A total of around 20 people were on site during the two-hour mission,” says David Marten (37), spokesman for the Ratingen fire brigade.

He was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Apparently the man was lucky in the misfortune and was spared from serious injuries.
