Ration Card Rules: Bad news for ration card holders on the occasion of Diwali and Satha festival celebrated in North India. Ration card holders will not get salt and sugar this time. Yes!! This time nine lakh card holders in Jharkhand state will not get sugar and salt during Diwali. About nine lakh cardholders belonging to Antyodaya families in the state have not received sugar for the past seven months. Now the card holders are not getting salt for the last two months.

The Salt Distribution Scheme was launched from 2011-12

Under the National Food Security Act, one kg of sugar is provided to an Anthyothaya family at a subsidized rate every month in the state. A salt distribution scheme was launched in the state from 2011-12. At present, under the scheme, one kg of iodized salt is distributed to households linked to the State’s National Food Security Act at the rate of Rs 1 per kg.

The tender had to be canceled three times

The work for procurement of sugar will be completed from May onwards. The tender was canceled three times due to non-participation of the contractor. Once, in the tender, the price asked was higher than the market price, and the sector protested. As far as sugar is concerned it is a cash trade. The government lends it. Considering the geographical location of Jharkhand, no bidder wants to participate.

There are a small number of Antyodaya families in remote areas of the state. In such a situation, the agency involved in the supply of sugar to the dealers has to spend more on transportation. An order has been placed for delivery of sugar from April to June. Soon sugar will be supplied to ration dealers from the agency. Thereafter, three months worth of sugar will be provided to the beneficiaries at once. In the rest of the month, the tender for the supply of sugar has been issued and the works are being completed.

Increase in kerosene prices

Ration dealers in Jharkhand are not interested in kerosene tenders. After the central government withdrew subsidy on kerosene, its price has gone up significantly. Due to this the beneficiaries do not buy kerosene here. 50 paise per liter of kerosene distributed through public distribution is being spent from the state scheme.
