Ravens Running Back Keaton Mitchell Suffers Season-Ending Knee Injury: Melvin Gordon to Step In

by time news

Baltimore Ravens rookie running back Keaton Mitchell suffered a devastating knee injury during the team’s 23-7 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed in a press conference. The injury, which occurred during the fourth quarter of the game, will prematurely end Mitchell’s 2023 season.

Harbaugh expressed his disappointment at the news, stating, “It’s heartbreaking. He’s just got a great attitude and demeanor about him. He’s a guy you want to see do well. He deserves to do well. And just feel for his parents right now — they’re watching and I’m sure they’re feeling it, too.”

Prior to his injury, Mitchell had been an impressive performer for the Ravens, rushing for 323 yards and two touchdowns with an outstanding average of 8.5 yards per carry. The undrafted rookie out of East Carolina had added 73 more yards to that total on nine carries in Week 15 before exiting the game.

In light of Mitchell’s absence, the Ravens plan to call up Melvin Gordon from their practice squad to help fill the void. Harbaugh expressed confidence in Gordon’s abilities, stating, “He’s been working super hard. He’s in great shape and he’ll be ready to go.” Additionally, the team has running backs Gus Edwards and Justice Hill currently on the 53-man roster.

The Ravens will face the San Francisco 49ers in their next game on Monday night. Mitchell’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, but the team is determined to move forward and prepare for the challenge ahead.
