Meta continues to rapidly evolve its line of smart glasses, adding significant functionality through software updates and its Meta AI integration.The company has just released version 21.0 of its AI glasses software, bringing nine new features to both the ray-Ban Meta (generation 2) and the Oakley Vanguard. The update introduces new video capture modes, improved device management, and exclusive AI-powered features for the Oakley Vanguard, while two are exclusive to the Oakley Vanguard. This latest update solidifies Meta’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and expanding the capabilities of its wearable technology.

Enhanced Functionality for All meta Glasses

The update introduces several features designed to improve everyday use and content creation. Users can now take advantage of:

  • Find Device: This feature leverages the Meta AI app to pinpoint the last known location of the glasses, offering peace of mind for forgetful users. To activate, navigate to settings, then Privacy & Security.
  • Hyperlapse: Capture dynamic, sped-up videos of up to 30 minutes in length. Recordings are initiated with the voice command, “Hey Meta, start hyperlapse.”
  • Slow Motion: Record up to one minute of action in captivating slow motion by simply saying, “Hey Meta, start slow motion.”
  • adjustable Stabilization: Fine-tune video stabilization levels within the device settings (Media and video settings) to achieve the desired smoothness, or utilize the auto-select function for optimal results.
  • Video Sharing: Seamlessly share 15-second or less video clips directly to Instagram or Facebook with the voice command, “Hey meta, share that video (or last) to Facebook (or instagram).”

oakley Vanguard gains Exclusive AI-Powered Features

Oakley Vanguard owners receive two additional, advanced features tailored to active lifestyles.

  • Athlete Intelligence: This groundbreaking feature allows Vanguard users to connect their glasses to popular fitness platforms like garmin, Apple Health, google Health Account, and Strava. Meta AI will then track workouts, provide performance statistics, and automatically capture video clips based on milestones achieved. Meta plans to roll this functionality out to other glasses models in the future.
  • Garmin Workout Creation: By combining a supported garmin device with Meta AI, users can create customized workouts through voice commands. For example, a user coudl say, “Create a 1 hour bike ride targeting 20 miles per hour,” and the system will generate a workout with specific duration, distance, and optional targets like heart rate, pace, or cadence.

Expanding Language Support and AI Integration

Beyond these core features, the update also brings improvements to Meta AI’s capabilities.

  • meta AI and Spotify: Meta AI can now curate Spotify playlists based on the user’s surroundings. A simple command like, “Hey Meta, play a song to go with my view,” will generate a fitting soundtrack. Currently,this feature is limited to English.
  • Music App Language Expansion: Users can now control music playback in Amazon Music, Apple Music, Shazam, and Spotify using voice commands in French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese.
  • Voice Shortcuts (Oakley Vanguard Only): Active users and athletes can now bypass the “Hey Meta” wake word with customizable voice shortcuts, enabling quicker interaction with the glasses during activities. These shortcuts can be linked to a Garmin device and an activated “Activity.”

The Meta AI glasses software update version 21.0 is available now. Users are encouraged to update their glasses through the Meta AI app by navigating to the glasses icon, then the settings gear, and finally selecting “Updates,” where they can also enable automatic updates. This latest release demonstrates meta’s ongoing commitment to innovation and solidifies its position as a leader in the emerging smart glasses market.
