Possibilities for deepening trade and economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Japan were the main topic of the meeting of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raya Nazaryan, with the Chairman of the Group for Friendship with Bulgaria in the Upper House of the Japanese Parliament, Junichi Ishii. This was announced by the press center of the National Assembly.

I am happy that I can welcome in Sofia a delegation of the Japanese Parliament, with whom we can discuss the development of the parliamentary dialogue and the cooperation between our countries in the fields of economy, investments and tourism, noted Raya Nazaryan. The Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament pointed out that Bulgaria and Japan enjoy long-standing friendly relations and are in the strongest phase of their bilateral cooperation. Bulgaria views Japan as a valuable and desirable partner, as a guarantor of quality, reliability and correctness, stressed Raya Nazaryan. She expressed confidence that the good relations and fruitful dialogue between parliamentarians from both sides will help further development of relations in various spheres of mutual interest.
The Chairman of the National Assembly pointed out that despite the good traditions and excellent bilateral relations, there is still untapped potential for the development of cooperation between Bulgaria and Japan in the trade-investment area and in the field of tourism. We would be happy if there were more Japanese investments in Bulgaria, we are ready to work in the direction of increasing the structure and volume of Bulgarian exports to Japan and to stimulate tourist exchange, stressed Raya Nazaryan. She expressed hope that the upcoming World Expo in Osaka in 2025 will provide new opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of information technology, automotive industry, artificial intelligence, energy and innovation.
The Chairman of the Group for Friendship with Bulgaria in the Upper House of the Japanese Parliament Junichi Ishii congratulated the Speaker of the National Assembly Raya Nazaryan on her election as Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament. Junichi Ishii recalled that 2024 will mark three important anniversaries for bilateral relations – 115 years since the first official contacts, 85 years since the establishment and 65 years since the restoration of diplomatic relations, which are further proof of the warm friendly ties between Japan and Bulgaria. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Raya Nazaryan, emphasized that he is looking forward to the visit of the Speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament of Japan, Fukushiro Nukaga, to Sofia in September.
