Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya seemed satisfied with the goalless draw with hosts Atalanta on Thursday evening, in the opening match of the two teams in the Champions League.
Arsenal struggled to create the required threat to the Italian goal, and Raya made a legendary double save.
The score was tied 0-0 when the referee awarded a penalty kick in Atalanta’s favour after Ederson was fouled by Partey.
Matteo Retegui took the penalty kick in the 51st minute, but Raya excelled in deflecting it, before the ball returned to the player and he headed it towards the opposite corner, but the goalkeeper quickly got up to save the ball before it crossed the goal line.
Raya said in statements to the network: (TNT Sports)“We knew the difficulty of the match due to the strength of the Italian opponent.”
“Arsenal also made it difficult for Atalanta, we did not allow them to create chances, and we gained a valuable point away from home,” he added.
He noted: “We could have played a little better, but I think we managed the match well.”
Regarding his fantastic save, he commented: “I was lucky to go in the right direction and save the ball, and I was quick enough to get up and save the situation again.”
“It took a long time to decide on the penalty, so I went to Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach to talk about where to take the shot. He helped me a lot, so the credit goes to him,” he said.
