Rayssa Leal Unveils Eco-Inspired Skateboard for Paris 2024 Olympics

by time news

At 16 years old, Rayssa Leal, a skateboard athlete from the Brazil Team, is facing her second edition of the Olympic Games in her career. The “little fairy,” as she is known, presented a customized skateboard for the 2024 Paris Olympics earlier this week, inspired by the Amazônia and focusing on the theme of nature preservation.

At the 2024 Games, Rayssa will use a skateboard with the shape from April Skateboards, one of her sponsors.

The skateboard that the little fairy will use in Paris 2024 is on sale on the brand’s website for US$ 71 (R$ 400.69 at this Saturday’s exchange rate), plus shipping costs. The shape features a design of two blue macaws in homage to the Amazônia.

“Humanity can only be healthy if we preserve nature – the quality of water, air, and the environment. With the Olympic Games, I have a unique opportunity to share the importance of preserving the natural world. The Olympics are one of the most positive events in the world, for all fans and athletes worldwide, and with the support of the IOC, I have a great opportunity to spread the word about environmental preservation,” Rayssa wrote in the announcement of the partnership.

The design originated from a partnership between the athlete and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to raise awareness about the importance of protecting nature. According to the organization, this edition of the Games “is fully aligned with the reforms of the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020 and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.”

Originally from Imperatriz, Maranhão, Rayssa Leal is the youngest Olympic medalist from Brazil since Tokyo 2020, when the athlete reached the first podium in the Olympics at 13 years old. Rayssa won a silver medal in that edition.

The little fairy also placed 1st in the WS World Championship (2022) and 1st in the SLS Super Crown (2022 and 2023) and is one of Brazil’s hopes for Paris 2024.

Rayssa is among the three Brazilian athletes with the most sponsorships in this edition of the Games: there are a total of 13 contracts signed, according to a survey by Ibope Repucom.

The women’s street competitions, the category in which Rayssa competes, will take place this Sunday (28), starting at 7 AM Brasília time. The complete schedule can be checked on the Olympics’ site.
