Raytheon Successfully Tests Exatmospheric Killing Vehicle

American arms and military products manufacturer Raytheon has conducted a successful test of its “exatmospheric killing vehicle,” designed to protect the United States by intercepting and neutralizing long-range ballistic missiles in low orbit around the Earth.

The kinetic force weapon successfully destroyed a medium-range ballistic missile during a test by the US Missile Defense Agency and the US Northern Command held yesterday in the Pacific Ocean.

“This test proves that the United States’ ballistic missile defense system is operational, reliable and ready to defend the country,” said Raytheon President Wes Kramer.

“Raytheon’s kill vehicles have now successfully completed nearly 50 interceptions in space, underscoring our expertise and ability to design and develop these systems to defeat the evolving threat,” he added.

The weapon, also known as “EKV,” is an interceptor component of the ground interceptor and part of the “Midcourse” ground defense system. It uses multi-colored sensors, advanced computers, and rocket engines to maneuver through space and neutralize the threat.

Raytheon stated that it is currently developing advanced ballistic missile interceptors and kill vehicles that will protect the United States and its allies with a “stronger missile defense capability against current and future threats.”

However, the company did not specify whether the weapon would be able to protect the United States and its allies from Russian and Chinese hypersonic threats.

It’s important to note that the United States is lagging behind in the hypersonic race, while other powers are adding the new weapon to the modern battlefield.

The successful test of the exatmospheric killing vehicle is a significant step forward in the United States’ efforts to strengthen its missile defense capabilities and protect against potential threats from around the world.
