RB scores – and the ex-top coach cheers enthusiastically

Jürgen Klopp is back in the Bundesliga – but only on a visiting trip. The former top coach watched a game in Saxony.

After the goal, he burst out: Jürgen Klopp cheered Xavi Simons’ goal to make it 1-0 for RB against Werder Bremen in the stands of Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena. The former top coach shouted his joy between RB managing director Marcel Schäfer and technical director Mario Gómez.

But why did Klopp watch a Bundesliga game between two rather average teams like Leipzig and SV Werder? The answer: He has been a lobbyist for the Red Bull Group’s soccer division since the beginning of the year – the official title is “Global Head of Soccer” – and in this role he tours the various locations.

After Klopp watched Paris FC play against Amiens SC (1-0) on Saturday, it was Leipzig’s turn a day later. The 57-year-old will then give a press conference at the company’s headquarters in Salzburg on Tuesday.

“We have already spoken and exchanged ideas,” said RB managing director Schäfer on DAZN before the game in Leipzig and added: “I would be happy if we met in person, when we have the time to sit down and talk about topics to discuss in person.”

That was the case in the stands of the Leipzig stadium. Regardless, it was clear to Schäfer when it came to Klopp: “I stand by it: This is an absolute royal transfer.”
