A national flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Reserve Bank office premises at Barimuna, Chennai yesterday morning to mark the Republic Day. A Tamil greeting song was played at the end of the event.

Some of the officers were then seated without standing up. Angered by this, a journalist asked, ‘Why didn’t you stand up during the Tamil greeting song?’ Officials said, ‘There is no need to stand up during the Tamil greeting song. The court has issued an order in this regard.

It was clarified to the officials that the Government of Tamil Nadu has issued a directive that ‘everyone must get up when the Tamiltai greeting song is played at government functions in Tamil Nadu’. Following this, the officials said, ‘We are doing it from now on’.

Various political party leaders had condemned the misconduct of the bank officials.

In this situation, Chennai I-Court lawyer Rajesh has lodged an online complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner. In his complaint, it has been mentioned that criminal action will be taken against the officers. This act of the bank officials has created an environment where law and order problem arises. Following this, the police are to hold a direct inquiry with the authorities today.

In this context, it is noteworthy that the Tamil Nadu Right to Life Party has stated that a protest will be held at 11 am today besieging the Reserve Bank. In turn, heavy police security has been put in place around the banks.
