The events surrounding the election of the rector of the University of Salzburg, for which the Senate and the University Council are responsible, give a bad impression to the public.
The vested interests of various internal groups present the same picture as in the 2018/19 rector election, where highly qualified applicants were eliminated. It is therefore not surprising that there are no internal candidates.
A new tender once the current complaint and any further objections have been resolved seems to be the only solution. The two vice-rectors will certainly ensure that the university continues to work well until then.
