/ The match between Iran and Japan in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup, yesterday, Saturday, witnessed breaking records in internet traffic in Tehran.

“The traffic of the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) during the broadcast of the match reached unprecedented levels,” said Iranian Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Technology Amir Lajevardi.

He explained that “for the first time, the speed reached nearly 5 terabytes per second, indicating an increase in online activity during a high-stakes football match,” according to the Iranian news agency “IRNA.”

“Moreover, during the football match between Iran and Syria in the Asian Cup, the combined domestic and international traffic increased significantly, exceeding 12.5 terabytes per second,” Lajevardi added.

On Saturday, the Iranian national football team won 2-1 against Japan in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup. A penalty kick scored by Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the last minute of the match secured the victory, sending Tehran to the semi-finals for the second time since 2004.
