The bottom line is that the win is okay for Real. Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team was the more active with the better scoring chances for long stretches of the game. But for a long time it looked as if there would actually be a German final at Wembley for the first time since the 2012/13 season.
Alphonso Davies gave the team a 1-0 lead with a great individual effort in the 68th minute, which lasted until shortly before the end of regular time. Then it was Real striker Joselu who was there after a mistake by Manuel Neuer and ensured the much celebrated 1-1 in the sold-out Santiago Bernabeu (88th). Just a few minutes later, the Spaniard increased the score to 2-1 from the Madrilenians’ perspective after a standard situation (90th + 1).

At the end there was another excitement: Matthijs de Ligt shot the ball into the goal after a long ball including a lay-off from Thomas Müller, but before that the referee’s whistle had already sounded – due to an alleged offside position by Noussair Mazraoui. However, this was not initially clearly visible on the television images. Due to the early whistle, VAR intervention was no longer possible.
Bayern were right to get upset, but of course they ultimately couldn’t do anything. They are now without a title this season.
