After much speculation, the Real Madrid finally announced the departure of Karim Benzema after 14 seasons as an athlete for the merengue club. The Frenchman joined the team in 2009, aged 21, and was part of one of the team’s most successful eras.
“Real Madrid CF and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to put an end to his brilliant and unforgettable period as a player for our club. Real Madrid wants to show its gratitude and all its affection to one of our greatest legends”, begins the official note published by the club.

During his time at Real, Benzema won 25 titles, a team record. In all, there were five Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, four La Ligas, three King’s Cups and four Spanish Super Cups.
Individually, the French striker comes from winning the Ballon d’Or in 2022 and was named UEFA player of the year. Benzema is the player who most often wore the team’s shirt, with 647 games played, and is Real Madrid’s second top scorer, with 353 goals scored.
To mark the farewell of one of its greatest recent idols, the club will hold a ceremony at Ciudad Real Madrid next Tuesday, with the presence of president Florentino Pérez.

Madridistas and all the fans around the world have enjoyed his football magical and unique, which made him one of the great myths of our club and one of the great legends of world football”, highlighted the merengue team.
