Real Madrid loses derby win against Atlético

Real Madrid has failed to extend its lead in the Spanish football league. The record champions failed to score more than 1-1 (1-0) in the derby against Atlético Madrid on Sunday evening after a long lead.

The club of the injured ÖFB star David Alaba is still two points ahead of the surprise team Girona. FC Barcelona are eight points behind and Atlético are ten points behind. Marcos Llorente equalized in the 93rd minute.

Brahim Diaz, who stepped in at short notice as a replacement for the injured Vinícius Júnior, gave Real the lead in the first half (20th). But his goal wasn’t enough for the seventh league win in a row. When Real thought they had already taken the next step towards the championship title, Llorente struck with a header after Memphis Depay’s header.

Real remain unbeaten at home this season, but dropped points for the second time in the league. Next Saturday the league lead is at stake in the home game against Girona.
