Real Madrid players have agreed with Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach, regarding the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Real Madrid and Manchester City tied 3-3 yesterday, Tuesday, at the Royal Stadium, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Guardiola said after the match: “The renovation of the Santiago Bernabeu is wonderful, but Real Madrid must take care of the grass in its stadium as it always does.”
According to the Spanish network “Relevo”, Real Madrid players have also been complaining about the poor condition of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for a long time.
The report added that Real Madrid players believe that the state of the field harms their team first before the competitors, especially since the team tends most of the time to keep the ball more than the opponent.
He explained, “The uneven length of the grass causes some problems for the Royal players, especially for the wingers and wing-backs, who run long distances.”
The report indicated that the discomfort of Real Madrid players goes back to the season before last, when they received a promise from the administration to improve the field in September 2022, but nothing happened.
He continued, “The administration justified the matter by saying that there was a heat wave that spoiled the renovation process.”
The report added, “The administration promised to resolve the matter after the 2022 Qatar World Cup, but the problem was not addressed due to not enough light and air entering the stadium, after installing the new stadium cover.”
He concluded, “Real Madrid is considering using movable grass, which will be pulled to the western side of the stadium, in a tunnel about 30 meters deep, in order to take care of it.”
