/ Real Madrid, the leader of the Spanish Football League, extended the contract of its Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, today, Friday, until June 2026, at a time when he was expected to be the coach of the Brazilian “Samba”.

The royal club said in a statement on its official website that “Ancelotti, 64, who was expected to become coach of the Brazilian national team starting next summer, will eventually be linked to Real Madrid until June 30, 2026,” according to Agence France-Presse.

Ancelotti has won every possible title with Real Madrid since his first spell on the bench (2013-2015), before returning in 2021. He added two Champions League titles (2014, 2022), a league title (2022) and two Copa del Rey titles (2014, 2023) to the Madrid club’s record.

The announcement of the extension of his contract, which was due to expire next summer, came as a surprise at a time when the former coach of Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich was a candidate to be the first foreign coach of the five-time world champions in nearly sixty years, and to lead them after the upcoming Copa America in the United States (from June 20 to July 14).

Real Madrid officials have chosen to renew their confidence in Ancelotti, who has begun the process of renewing the squad of the club, which has won the Champions League title 14 times (a record), after the departure of its two stars, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and French Karim Benzema, in recent seasons.

Ancelotti succeeded in leading the new generation to win the Champions League title in 2022, relying on promising mainstays such as Brazilians Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, and Frenchmen Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Real Madrid leads the Spanish League after 18 stages and has reached the round of 16 of the prestigious continental competition, where it will meet German Leipzig.
