BarcelonaThe expected appearance of Joan Laporta this Monday on the Negreira case was marked, among others, by the darts that the president of Barça threw against Real Madrid, personified in the case against the Blaugrana club. Laporta came to define the Whites as “the team of the regime” and this past night Madrid wanted to answer him. He did so with a video on his social networks titled “What is the regime’s team?” and that, through the misrepresentation of history, he tries to link Barça with the Franco regime.

The video, filled with images of the No-Do with phrases about being impressed reinterpreting the events narrated in it, does not mention the shooting of former Barcelona president Josep Sunyol for his status as an ERC deputy, nor does it mention episodes such as the imposition of Spanish or the change of the club’s name due to the suppression of Catalan during Franco’s dictatorship.

Madrid play with history by saying that the general minister of the regime, José Solís Ruiz, inaugurated the Camp Nou or that the gold and glittering badge was awarded to Franco, ignoring that the club withdrew it in 2019, as well as two more medals, which he had received by imposition. It is also stated, shamelessly, that Franco saved Barça “three times from bankruptcy”, in addition to the titles won by the Blaugrana during the regime.

At the end of it all, and in contrast to Barça’s supposed affinity with Francoism, the video points out that in 1939 Madrid was in a “critical” situation, with its headquarters bombed, trophies stolen and only 5 players in the squad . “The rest have gone into exile or been arrested by the victors,” says the voice-over, just before a recording of ex-merengue president Santiago Bernabéu is heard: “When I hear that Madrid has been the team of the regime I want to shit on the father of the person who says it.”
