At the end of May, superstar Taylor Swift performed at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but concerts will be on hold for now at Real Madrid’s arena. Complaints from residents about noise disturbances have led to the cancellation of all upcoming shows by the Spanish record champions.
The stadium had recently undergone extensive renovations. A retractable roof and a movable playing field were installed in order to host entertainment events year-round. And to bring in additional revenue. Swift’s concert is reported to have generated around 9.1 million euros for Real.
Concerts at the Bernabeu? Not possible for now
However, citizens complain that the noise level violates city regulations. The Bernabeu is not sufficiently soundproof, and the new, powerful speakers do not comply with regulations.
“Real Madrid has decided to temporarily postpone the program of events and concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu,” the club announced. The decision is “part of a series of measures that the club has taken to ensure strict compliance with current city regulations regarding concerts.”
Alongside the American Swift, Colombian singer Karol G had also performed four times at the arena during the summer. In fact, Spanish artists Dellafuente and Aitana were supposed to perform there in November and December. New dates for these events are expected to be announced soon. It remains unclear how compliance with regulations will be ensured then.
