Rebels storm a suburb in Great Britain, writes “Independent”. A police car and a double-decker bus were overturned and set on fire in the UK suburb of Leeds.
People in the area were urged to stay indoors as police were called to Luxor Street at around 5pm due to an “ongoing disturbance” involving agency workers and children. As the children were moved to safety, crowds gathered and the situation escalated, with objects being thrown at the police.
Videos posted on social media showed a police car overturned – before being attacked by people – and a double-decker bus set on fire, with numerous fires lit in the street.
An employee at a local pharmacy witnessed “quite aggressive” scenes and said he saw people throwing objects at police and cars.
Meanwhile, a tweet on X from the Reform Bloc’s Nigel Farage prompted a response from Alex Sobel, MP for Leeds Central and Headingley.
“The politics of now being played out on the streets of Leeds. Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Farage wrote.
“This is a situation that you know nothing about and no one has informed you about. You are inflaming the situation with misinformation. Politicians have a duty not to escalate situations, especially if they do not know them. I expect you to issue an apology,” Sobel replied.
The police reported that there were no injuries and that a number of roads were closed, writes Nova.
