Telecom regulator TRAI on Friday proposed to reduce broadband connection charges. However, this proposal is for WiFi connections used for public data offices. This also includes those offices that provide public WiFi service. Actually, this decision has been taken because there are much less WiFi spots than the target number set by the government.

Expensive recharges compared to FTTH-

In the explain note of the telecom tariff order, TRAI found that the lease line tariff of the internet has become very expensive. In this, TRAI has compared fiber-to-the-home and internet lease line tariff. TRAI said that the lease line tariff of 100 Mbps plan is 40-80 times more expensive than fiber-to-home. This means that many users are going to suffer a lot due to this.

Data usage reduced due to expensive recharge-

TRAI said that there are many shops in India whose profit is very low and they cannot afford expensive recharge plans. In such a situation, cheap plans should be worked out for all such shops. There are some offices in Public Data Office (PDO) that do not even need ILL connection and they can easily work with the help of cheap recharge plans, so they are incurring huge losses after taking expensive recharges.

TRAI presented its report-

Citing low data consumption, TRAI said, ‘According to the information received from PM-Wani Central Registry, there has been a decline in daily average data usage. Till last year, the average usage was 1 GB daily usage which has now reduced to a few MB. This is also much less than the monthly average data limit. The inclination of retail broadband customers is decreasing.’ Citing this, TRAI has advised to reduce the price of Broadband Connection. In such a situation, people using public data are going to get a lot of benefit. Also, once the connection becomes cheaper, data usage will also increase.
