In 2015, the Shibuya district under the Tokyo city government first recognized heterosexual attraction. Now that the Tokyo city government has taken this decision, heterosexual attractors have expressed their happiness as the beginning of change.
Although Japan has a conservative government that values family traditions, it has to be said that its tolerance of gender differences has softened in recent times. In early 2021, a study on gay marriage and relationships was conducted in Japan.
At the end of the survey, it was revealed that 57 percent of the public had a supportive attitude towards same-sex attractions. Only 37 percent people were in opposition mood. In June, the Osaka court issued an opinion that the reason why homosexuals are not recognized is because of Japan’s constitution.
