The Parliamentary Committee has recommended setting up an Economic Alliance or Hi-Tech Park in the area of ​​three closed mills owned by Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC). These closed factories are located in Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporation. For this, the Parliamentary Committee on Public Institutions Committee has asked to form an expert team and submit a report to the government within 3-6 months.

This recommendation was made in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Institutions Committee held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhawan on Monday (July 8). This information was stated in the press release sent by the Parliament Secretariat after the meeting.

It said that the three mills of BJMC included in the city corporation, which have not yet been leased, can be replaced in the economic zone or hi-tech park or not – the committee to prepare a report within 3-6 months through an expert team and send it to the government. recommended

Two of the three mills belonging to the City Corporation are located in Demra, Dhaka. These are Latif Bawani Jute Mills Limited, Karim Jute Mills Limited. The other is Amin Jute Mills Limited located in Sholoshahar, Chittagong.

In the meeting, necessary steps were taken to examine whether the leased mills owned by BJMC are profitable or not, whether the assets can be securitized by selling bonds and shares and used for any profitable purpose of the government or whether it can be used for modernizing any of the BJMC’s factories or not. For the committee recommends the concerned.

Committee President Abul Kalam Azad chaired the meeting and committee members Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Siddiqur Rahman Patwari, Anwarul Ashraf Khan and Nazma Akhtar also participated in the meeting.
