Civil Protection of Nuevo Leon alerted the state’s inhabitants to the black bear sightings in residential areas of the state, for which the local agency gave some recommendations in case you see one of these animals.
Through its social media, state Civil Protection reported that citizens have reported at least three sightings of black bears in different residential areas.

For the above reasons, local authorities gave some recommendations that should be followed in case of these sightings:
- Report sighting to 911
- Keep calm
- Do not approach the bear/bears
- Do not feed them, as this can alter their digestive system and diet.
- Do not throw stones or objects at them.
- Do not try to take close-up photos
- Do not disturb them
Because the black bear is native to northwestern Nuevo León and is an endemic animal, authorities are coordinating with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Prefepa) to protect and return the animal to its habitat.
