In Sweden, twice as many narcotic pills were seized from January to June this year as in the whole of 2023, according to new statistics from the Swedish Customs Service.
As reported by Day.Az, the volumes of marijuana, cocaine and amphetamine oil seizures are also increasing, while heroin, amphetamine and hashish seizures are decreasing. In total, the customs service seized 5 tons of drugs in the first half of the year.
“The large influx of drugs, not least narcotic tablets, is alarming. Drugs are a major source of income for criminal gangs and as long as there is demand, smuggling will continue,” said Customs Deputy Director General Bodil Taylor.
According to the customs service, 5.3 tons of drugs were seized in 2023, which significantly exceeded the figures for previous years.
There has also been an increase in the number of individual large seizures. Between January and June, a total of nine drug shipments weighing over 100 kilograms were seized, some of them over 200 kilograms.
