The German record champions are continuing to plan for the coming season. Now a top performer from the new German champions has come into focus.
Despite currently second place in the Bundesliga and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League: The 2023/24 season is disappointing for FC Bayern. The Munich team were eliminated early on in the DFB Cup, with poor, sometimes even embarrassing performances throughout the season – and for the first time in eleven years, the German champions will not be coming from the Isar. After an outstanding season, Bayer Leverkusen is confirmed as the new title holder.
And preparations for the coming season are already underway in Munich. Now things could get explosive. Because Sky reports: FC Bayern wants to sign Leverkusen’s top performer Jonathan Tah.
Tah wants to “take the next step”
Accordingly, discussions have already taken place with the defender’s management. Tah is ready to “take the next step” in the summer, so a move to the German record champions is possible. However, Leverkusen is continuing to plan with its defense chief and is not planning to give up the 28-year-old.
Tah is a key part of the success of coach Xabi Alonso’s team this season. In 40 competitive games so far in 2023/24, the 1.95 meter man has scored six goals and prepared another goal. What’s more: thanks to Tah, Leverkusen has by far the best defense in the Bundesliga (only 20 goals conceded in 30 games).
However, a possible transfer could be expensive for Bayern: Tah’s contract does not expire until 2025 and, according to Sky, there is no exit clause.
The Hamburg native moved from Hamburger SV to the Werkself for 9.5 million euros in 2015 and is an undisputed regular player. The defender has also been able to establish himself in the German national team and has played 90 minutes in the last seven international matches.
