increase in dengue cases

Argentina is struggling with a record dengue outbreak: more than 40 people have died from their dengue disease and more than 60,000 have been infected. The north-west of the country is particularly affected by the outbreak, but the mosquito population is also moving further south. The northwestern provinces of Salta, Tucumn and Jujuy, near Argentina’s borders with Chile and Bolivia, have seen the highest number of deaths.

The infection is spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The last major dengue outbreak to hit Argentina was in 2020.
