Kuwait’s electricity consumption broke the record on Sunday when the temperature was recorded at 49 degrees Celsius. The Ministry of Water and Power had estimated that consumption would increase by up to 15,500 MW in summer, but the all-time high index was recorded, distorting the conclusions. Every year in the country, electricity consumption increases during the summer season. From August to the end of September, the peak of summer is always recorded with high consumption. The reason for the rise in consumption is that the air conditioners are run more in hot weather.
Officials said the ministry has taken necessary steps to conserve energy and ensure necessary maintenance. Depending on the availability of fuel and temperature, there is a power reserve of 1500 to 2000 MW, but if the consumption continues at the same rate, restrictions such as load shedding may be required to relieve pressure on generation centers and increase energy efficiency, sources said.
