Record number of travelers in the regions of Girona in January

New rhistorical record of travelers who spent the night in Girona hotels in the month of January. According to the data on the Hotel Tourism Situation published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in the first month of the year there were 122,444 people, 9.7% more than January of last year. These tourists made a total of 441,095 overnight stays, 17.6% more than a year agoand which also represents the highest figure for the first month of the year in the INE’s historical series.

On the other hand, the profitability indicators of the hotel sector show that the average price of hotel rooms in Girona was 69.6 euros in January, the lowest of the four Catalan provinces, and only 1% above the prices of a year ago. The most expensive rooms are found in Barcelona, ​​with a price per night that touches 100 euros on average and an annual growth of 29.5%.

In January, the Hotel Price Index (IPH) in Catalonia registered a year-on-year increase of 16.9%, above the national average, which was 10.9%. The average daily rate for Catalan hotels was 93.98 euros; while in the State it increased to 95.4 euros.

In the first month of the year, up to 966,403 tourists stayed in hotels in Catalonia, 5.1% less than in January 2020, when it exceeded one million (1,017,702). Compared to 2022, when 649,122 tourists arrived, the number has increased by 48.9%. In terms of overnight stays, 2.25 million were registered, while three years ago there were 2.27. Hotel prices were 16.9% higher than a year ago, the second highest increase in the State behind the Community of Madrid (17.3%).

In the State as a whole, 5.3 million tourists arrived in January, 3.56% less than in 2020 – then there were 5.57 million -; and more than 15.5 million overnight stays were recorded, 46.4% more than last year, when there were 10.5 million. The figure was also slightly lower than pre-covid-19 levels. In January, Catalonia was ranked as the second most visited community in the State, surpassed only by the Canary Islands.
