New rhistorical record of travelers who spent the night in Girona hotels in the month of January. According to the data on the Hotel Tourism Situation published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in the first month of the year there were 122,444 people, 9.7% more than January of last year. These tourists made a total of 441,095 overnight stays, 17.6% more than a year agoand which also represents the highest figure for the first month of the year in the INE’s historical series.
On the other hand, the profitability indicators of the hotel sector show that the average price of hotel rooms in Girona was 69.6 euros in January, the lowest of the four Catalan provinces, and only 1% above the prices of a year ago. The most expensive rooms are found in Barcelona, with a price per night that touches 100 euros on average and an annual growth of 29.5%.
In January, the Hotel Price Index (IPH) in Catalonia registered a year-on-year increase of 16.9%, above the national average, which was 10.9%. The average daily rate for Catalan hotels was 93.98 euros; while in the State it increased to 95.4 euros.
In the first month of the year, up to 966,403 tourists stayed in hotels in Catalonia, 5.1% less than in January 2020, when it exceeded one million (1,017,702). Compared to 2022, when 649,122 tourists arrived, the number has increased by 48.9%. In terms of overnight stays, 2.25 million were registered, while three years ago there were 2.27. Hotel prices were 16.9% higher than a year ago, the second highest increase in the State behind the Community of Madrid (17.3%).
In the State as a whole, 5.3 million tourists arrived in January, 3.56% less than in 2020 – then there were 5.57 million -; and more than 15.5 million overnight stays were recorded, 46.4% more than last year, when there were 10.5 million. The figure was also slightly lower than pre-covid-19 levels. In January, Catalonia was ranked as the second most visited community in the State, surpassed only by the Canary Islands.
Cultural Promotion in Madrid
The Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board of the Girona County Council, the Gala – Salvador Dalí Foundation and the Peralada Group have organized a promotional action in Madrid, taking advantage of the immersive “Dalí Challenge” exhibition that can be seen until March 7. The aim of the action is to present, to around twenty journalists and culture and tourism experts from the Spanish media, the latest developments in Girona’s tourist offer, the new exhibition projects of the Dalí Foundation, and the program of the first edition of the Festival of Easter of the Peralada Festival.
Boost to renewable energies
The Girona Camping Association, the FOEG and the College of Industrial Technical Engineers of Girona have met with those responsible for Climate Action to promote green energies in the demarcation through the actions carried out in term from the business sector. One of the conclusions of the meeting was that information and training sessions aimed at the business sector will be organized to disseminate all the details of the current calls, procedures and subsidies
