Watan Al-Youm: Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Eng. Ziyad Al-Saaida, said that the electrical system recorded its highest load in the history of the Kingdom yesterday evening, Sunday, and amounted to 4,220 megawatts, which is a new unprecedented number in the history of the electrical system compared to the maximum load that was previously recorded in February this year amounted to 4090 megawatts, with an increase of more than 52% during the day compared to the same period last year.
And in the context of continuous monitoring of the readiness of the electrical system and reviewing the electricity companies’ preparations to face the repercussions of the heat wave that the Kingdom is witnessing. Al-Saaida inspected the operational preparations and plans related to maintaining service provision in the sectors of electric power generation, transmission and operation of the electrical system, in addition to electricity distribution.
Engineer Al-Saaida said in a press statement yesterday that the faults that were recorded on the electricity networks were limited and regular and did not affect the collective supply of subscribers, and they were dealt with immediately and remedied as quickly as possible. Pointing out that the measures taken before the onset of weather conditions worked to enhance and raise the sector’s readiness. This came after the field tours that he carried out, accompanied by a number of concerned directors in the authority, which included the monitoring and control center of the National Electric Power Company concerned with managing and operating the electrical system, the Rehab power station of the Samra Electricity Generation Company, and the operations rooms and call centers of the Irbid Electricity Company and the Electricity Distribution Company. . In addition to the implementation of a number of tours on Saturday, accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, which included the monitoring and control center of the National Electric Power Company and the Operations and Public Service Center of the Jordan Electricity Company.
Al-Saaida stressed that the authority will continue to exercise its oversight role on the electrical system through the monitoring and emergency center operating with high readiness around the clock, and activating the judicial police to monitor the performance of all licensed and operating agencies in the sector to ensure their commitment to providing the services stipulated in the licenses granted and to discuss the challenges and proposed solutions to ensure Sustaining service provision, dealing positively with citizens’ communications and complaints, following them up with the concerned electricity companies, and addressing any malfunctions that may occur in the electric current immediately. And he praised the efforts made by the companies working in the field of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and their response in maintaining high readiness to deal with the current weather conditions and maintaining the security of electricity supply, and cooperation and coordination among them in a way that serves the interest of the sector and the subscribers.
