After two years of governance at the head of the University of Abomey-Calavi, the rectoral team led by Professor Félicien Avlessi presented its mid-term report to the university community. It was thanks to an official ceremony which brought together, on Wednesday January 24, 2024 in the Idriss Déby Itno lecture hall, the authorities at various levels of the campus, the heads of entity and service as well as the teachers’ unions. .

What is important : Uac has the vision of being an international reference university in terms of training, research and expertise adapted to the sustainable development needs of Benin and the nations. In accordance with this vision, a certain number of actions were carried out in the second year of management of the rectoral team. To this end, this assessment of year 2 focused generally on governance and management, training, research and cooperation.

What you must remember : In terms of governance and management achievements, a map of UAC management risks, a repository and tools for managing UAC archives have been developed. The rectoral team has improved connectivity on campus and its website. The opening of operating and miscellaneous revenue accounts (incidental products) in the public treasury and the use of public treasury accounts for the UAC are now effective. The construction of a new rectorate building etc. In terms of training, the platform for non-beneficiary high school graduates has been set up and new training offers created in the field of health (FSS and INMeS) and artificial intelligence at IFRI.

Between the lines : With regard to scientific research, it should be noted the strengthening of the research system on Benin’s development problems and the government’s priorities; supporting teacher-researchers to improve Benin’s results at the various CAMES grades; the filing of 15 patents at OAPI with the support of the VaRRIWA program financed by the AUF; the creation of technology transfer offices thanks to the CEA project and the creation of a service for promoting research results at the scientific council. The summary of actions allows us to note that also 60 laboratories are authorized for activities. The 1st edition of the science and innovation days (JSi) and the Uac doctoral studies were organized. In terms of cooperation, the rectorate has implemented programs to support entrepreneurship and the training of student entrepreneur associations. The Employability Center for Student Entrepreneurs is operational and the Belgian Institutional Support (PAI) programs financed by ARES and the Mastercard Foundation scholarship are renewed. The job fair and the university day of National Cooperation were held.

Moreover : For this second assessment which covers the 2022-2023 academic year, 419 training offers were carried out with 167 licenses, 190 maters and 62 doctorates. In total, 66,911 registrations were validated for just over 96,000 students, 40% of whom were women. During this year, the number of teachers is 816. The resources mobilized are estimated at 79% for a collection rate of 100%.
