The eighth edition of the Recyclia Environment Awards has recognized the CEOE Foundation for his contribution to the reducing the digital divide by means of the environmental management of electronic devices, through its ‘Sustainable Digitalization’ campaign. Likewise, Recyclia has awarded the ABC Natural supplement of the newspaper ABC and the journalist María Meizoso of Corporación Voz de Galicia.

Fátima Báñez, president of the CEOE Foundation, collected the Recyclia Award in the category ‘Greatest Support from a Public or Private Entity to the Promotion of Recycling’, as promoter of the ‘Sustainable Digitalization’ campaign. The awards jury has valued the double social and environmental aspect of this initiative whose objective is to contribute to the development of the circular economy, through the reuse of electronic devices, and thus promote universal access to technology and the reduction of digital divide.

Specifically, ‘Sustainable Digitalization’ has already promoted access and training in new technologies for more than 20,000 people at risk of exclusion, and has avoided the emission of 204,000 kilograms of CO2 thanks to the recycling and reuse of more than 6,500 pieces of equipment. computer equipment donated by more than 100 companies and freelancers from all over Spain.

According to José Pérez, CEO of Recyclia, “We want this recognition to also serve to strengthen, even more so, our involvement, through the Ecoasimelec and Ecofimática foundations, in this initiative since its inception and, especially, in its third edition currently underway. With it – adds Pérez – we also want to invite other entities to join and become channels of digitalization with a positive impact on our society and our environment.”.

Recognition of the media

Likewise, Recyclia has distinguished the information and dissemination work of the media. In the category ‘Best Work by a Media Media for the Dissemination of Recycling’, the VIII Recyclia Award has gone to ABC Natural. The entity recognizes the capacity of the Vocento group’s newspaper supplement to generate interest and social commitment around global challenges in terms of sustainability and preservation of biodiversity, through a rigorous and plural analysis and with special attention to the most innovative initiatives in circularity of resources, ecodesign and recycling throughout its entire value chain.

With this award, Recyclia also adheres to the premise “Teaching to care for the environment is teaching to value life” under which this publication is governed, which it considers the informative reference in environmental journalism in our country, since its creation in 2007. The award was collected by Charo Barroso, director of ABC Natural.

For her part, María Meizoso has been awarded in the category ‘Best Work by a Journalist in the Dissemination of Recycling’. Recyclia distinguishes the informative and environmental awareness value of the journalist’s work through the Ecovoz section in the pages of La Voz de Galicia, in its Carballo edition, as well as the homonymous space on the airwaves of Radio Voz. The jury especially recognizes her dissemination of all types of projects in the field of waste management, innovation in favor of circularity, responsible production and consumption and the culture of recycling.

Likewise, coinciding with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the radio program in this 2023-2024 season, the jury wanted to extend this recognition to all the information professionals who have contributed to turning Ecovoz into the leading environmental dissemination space for radio in Galicia, as well as to especially reward its efforts to raise awareness among children and young people as prescribers of recycling in their homes.
