Theni: 2500 liters of used oil has been sent for recycling in Theni district.

The Food Safety Department officials have advised that single-use oil should not be reused in hotels, bakeries, Rotora shops and food processing companies in Theni district.

Again and again companies and shops are fined for using the same oil.

Raghavan, appointed food safety officer, said, ‘Private companies in the district get used oil from shops and restaurants for recycling at Rs.25 per liter and send it for fuel production.

In the last one year 45 thousand liters have been taken for re-circulation. 2500 liters of used oil has been received in the last month alone.

And many food consumers have little awareness about recycling. Arrangements are being made by the Department of Food Safety to make them aware. A target of 62 thousand liters per year has been set for Theni district.
