Chennai: The Chennai Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu on the 9th as the deep depression moving in the west-northwest direction may intensify into a storm tomorrow (Dec 7). Red alert has been issued for many districts on that day.
The information released by the Chennai Meteorological Center in this regard: Yesterday (Dec. 5) the low pressure area that prevailed in the South East Sea of Bengal and adjacent South Andaman Sea areas has become a deep low pressure area in the South East Sea of Bengal this morning (Nov. 6). It will move in west-northwest direction and may intensify as a low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal today (Dec 6) evening. Then, it will move further west-northwestward and intensify into a storm on 07th evening. It will move further west-northwestward and prevail over North-East-Pudu and adjoining South Andhra coastal areas on 08-09.
Due to this light to moderate rain may occur at one or two places in Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal on 6th. Light to moderate rain may occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal on 7th.
On the 8th Coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal at many places and a few places in interior Tamil Nadu districts may experience light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, districts and Puducherry, Karaikal may witness heavy to very heavy rain. Iranipet, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts received heavy rain at one or two places.
Red Alert – 9th: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at most places over Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal. Thiruvallur, Chennai, Iranipet, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai districts and Puducherry, Karaikal may witness heavy to very heavy rain; Very heavy rain (Red Alert) is likely at a couple of places. Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts received heavy rainfall at one or two places.
On the 10th Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal.
Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranippet, Vellore, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts will experience heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Kallakurichi, Villupuram districts and Puducherry will receive heavy rain at one or two places.
Chennai and its suburbs will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light rain may occur at few places. The maximum temperature will be around 30 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 24 degree Celsius.
Warning to Fishermen: Cyclonic winds of 40 to 45 kmph with occasional gusts of 55 kmph are likely to occur over Andaman Sea on 6th.
Cyclonic winds of 45 to 55 kmph with occasional gusts of 65 kmph are likely to occur over Southeast Bay of Bengal on 6th. Wind speed will gradually increase to 50 to 60 kmph with occasional gusts of 70 kmph on 7th. Then the wind speed will gradually decrease to 40 to 45 kmph with occasional gusts of 55 kmph on 8th.
Cyclonic winds of 40 to 50 kmph with occasional gusts of 60 kmph over Southwest Bay of Bengal on 6th; Wind speed will gradually increase to 50 to 60 kmph with occasional gusts of 70 kmph on the morning of 7th and 70 to 80 kmph with occasional gusts of 90 kmph on the 8th and 9th. After that the wind speed may decrease gradually.
Tamil Nadu-Puduwai and adjacent southern Andhra coastal areas, North Sri Lankan coastal areas Cyclonic wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph intermittently with a speed of 60 kmph starting from the morning of 8th, the wind speed will gradually increase from the evening of the 8th to the evening of the 9th with a speed of 50 to 60 kmph intermittently. Gusts of 70 kmph and gusts of 70 to 80 kmph with occasional gusts of 90 kmph from the evening of the 9th to the morning of the 10th. After that, the wind speed will gradually decrease to 50 to 60 km/h with occasional gusts of 70 km/h on 10th evening.
Gulf of Mannar Areas: Cyclonic wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph with occasional gust of 60 kmph is likely from 08.12.2022 evening to 09.12.2022 evening. From 09.12.2022 evening to 10.12.2022 morning, cyclonic wind speed of 50 to 60 kmph with occasional gust of 70 kmph is likely. Fishermen are advised not to go to these areas on the above days.
