The group (G)I-DLE, who caused controversy with their stage costumes featuring the Korean Red Cross mark, donated 50 million won to the Korean Red Cross.

According to the agency Cube Entertainment on the 29th, (G)I-dle members Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua donated 10 million won each, for a total of 50 million won, to the Korean Red Cross to support flood recovery.

This donation was made after (girl) children became aware of the Red Cross emblem and humanitarian activities used as a symbol for the protection of life according to the Geneva Convention, an international treaty, and decided to participate in the relief and recovery efforts following the record-breaking rainfall in 200 years.

(G)I-dle said, “We hope that the disheartened disaster victims will be comforted by the Red Cross’ life-saving humanitarian activities and return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”

Previously, (G)I-dle was embroiled in controversy after wearing a lifeguard concept stage costume with a red cross design without the consent of the Korean National Red Cross. It was pointed out that the costumes were in violation of the current law because they had a red cross design engraved on them.

According to Article 25 of the Korean National Red Cross Organization Act (Prohibition of Use of the Red Cross Emblem, etc.), anyone other than the Red Cross, military medical institutions, or those who have received approval for use from the Red Cross cannot use the Red Cross emblem for business or propaganda purposes. Any violation of this provision is subject to a fine of up to 10 million won or a penalty of up to 5 million won.

Regarding this, Cube Entertainment stated, “We are aware that there was a problem with the stage costumes, and we have contacted the Korean Red Cross to apologize and are actively discussing follow-up measures and measures to prevent a recurrence.” They continued, “We would like to once again apologize to everyone who was inconvenienced by this,” and “We sincerely thank the fans who always show much interest and support for (G)I-dle.”

The agency acknowledged the problem and promised not to wear stage costumes with the Red Cross symbol on them, and made a donation to the Korean Red Cross, putting an end to the controversy.
