FOUR STARS
With the starting point of this film you can do anything: a young writer goes to a beach to finish a novel urgently; A girl appears and puts the writer and his peace of mind in crisis.
But there are also forest fires (the “red sky” to which the title alludes), which puts – as is usual in the work of Christian Petzold– every human relationship in the face of an extreme situation.
Lo brilliant of this movie It consists of using commonplaces (the appearance of a third party, jealousy, the editor’s appearance, etc.) to turn them around and tell something else, this time with much more humor and light than in the director’s other films (Ondine or the brilliant Phoenix, without going further).
Starting from an apparently well-known fable, Petzold achieves complex human portraits without falling into the discursive. That is, finally, what the great power of cinema is about: reflecting and constructing with images and gestures an internal and complex reality.
