The Reddit platform, one of the most important forums in the world, will pay the authors of the most popular messages, announced the company Monday. On Reddit, users can already offer “gold” to the authors of messages they particularly liked. This “gold” is sold for around 1.50 euros each, and until now only had a cosmetic use: it is displayed on the profiles of people who have received it, distinguishing them as distinguished contributors.
From now on, recipients of “gold” will also receive part of the profits made by Reddit on the sale of this internal “currency”. The amount donated will depend on calculation system taking into account the “karma” received by the accounts, another system of points that users can receive and which is free.

The new feature was met with some skepticism on the platform, which is emerging from a long period of disruption. In the spring, significant changes to its operating rules led certain very popular third-party applications to close their doors, pushing a large part of the site’s moderation teams to strike.
