When Eduardo Camavinga, Real’s best midfielder, had to leave the field injured in the 56th minute with the score at 0-1, things looked bleak for the defending champions. But out of nowhere, the “Royal” gave themselves a golden possibility to equalize.
Mbappé does not put one foot in front of the othre
What happened? Liverpool defender Andy Robertson tripped substitute Lucas Vasquez in the penalty area – penalty. Kylian Mbappé, who had achieved little or nothing so far, took responsibility… and was denied by Alisson’s substitute, Caoimhin Kelleher, who felt the right corner early on.
What the long-awaited ketchup effect could mean for Mbappé - the Frenchman has remained unrecognizable since his move to Real in the summer – is likely to be a decisive blow in the neck for the visitors at Anfield road .
Salah’s misery has no consequences
Less than 10 minutes after the missed penalty on one side, referee François Letexier whistled a penalty on the other side. Mohamed Salah played cat and mouse with ferland Mendy and inspired the dirt with his trouble.
The player immediately ran foul and hit the ball at the outside post. A game where both Mbappé and Salah miss from the penalty spot is unlikely to happen again anytime soon.
However, Liverpool made up for what they lost. After a short corner, Robertson delivered a precise cross to Joker Cody Gakpo, who won the unequal header duel with Luka Modric and headed in to make it 2-0. Real and their backs came to the wall several times near the opponent’s penalty area. but the “reds” were not really in danger of giving up any more.
A more awake, faster, stronger Liverpool
Already in the first half it was the home team that set the tone. Liverpool almost took the led in the 4th minute, but Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio prevented it with a strong defensive effort in the final minute. After that, only the “Reds” were able to create scoring opportunities. But they failed because of Thibaut Courtois or because of their own effectiveness.
However, it did not take long after the restart before the hosts scored their first goal. Curtis Jones, Conor Bradley and alexis McAllister combined freely in a small space before McAllister found a way past Courtois from a good 11 metres.
This is how it goes
With 5 wins from 5 games, Liverpool can already plan for the final stage in the Champions League. Things look completely different at Real Madrid. The defending champions are still sitting on their 6 points. Direct qualification for the round of 16 is probably already off the table after the third defeat.
The 6th round of a total of 8 rounds is coming up in two weeks. The next tough guest is already coming up for Real, the Spanish champions travel to Bergamo to face the in-form Atalanta. Liverpool also face Girona away from home.

Time.news Editor: Welcome to our special segment on today’s Champions League match! I’m thrilled to have with us today sports analyst and football expert, Jamie Thompson. Thanks for joining us,Jamie.
Jamie Thompson: Thank you for having me! It’s always exciting to discuss Champions League football, especially after a match like that.
Time.news Editor: Absolutely! Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield on matchday 5 is certainly making headlines. What do you think were the key factors that led to Liverpool’s win?
Jamie Thompson: Liverpool’s home advantage at Anfield cannot be overstated. The atmosphere there is electric, and it truly seems to inspire the players. Additionally, Liverpool’s defensive setup was solid, which stifled Real Madrid’s attacking threats. Alexis McAllister and Cody Gakpo stepped up at crucial moments, delivering the goals that secured the victory.
Time.news Editor: You mentioned McAllister and Gakpo. Their performances were vital, but we also saw both Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah miss penalties. How do you think that impacted the match?
Jamie Thompson: Yes, those missed chances were significant. Penalties can be game-changers,and for both players to miss meant a lost possibility to put pressure on each other’s defenses. It’s tough for any player to bounce back after a failed spot-kick, especially in a high-stakes match like this. But ultimately, liverpool capitalized on their chances better than Real Madrid did.
Time.news Editor: Speaking of Real Madrid, despite this setback, they still have a strong reputation in European football. How do you see this match affecting their morale as they move forward in the tournament?
Jamie Thompson: real Madrid are a resilient team with a lot of experience in handling difficulties. This loss might potentially be a wake-up call for them, and they’ll likely reassess their strategy moving forward. however, it’s importent to remember that they aren’t out of the race just yet. With their history, they’re capable of bouncing back swiftly.
Time.news Editor: Fascinating viewpoint,Jamie. Given that Liverpool is currently the only team with maximum points in their group, how do you see their prospects for the rest of the tournament?
Jamie Thompson: Liverpool’s form is impressive, and they definitely look like contenders this season. If they can maintain this momentum and consistency, they could go deep into the tournament.Their attacking play and defensive organization are promising signs. However, knockout stages can bring unexpected challenges, and they’ll need to stay focused.
Time.news Editor: what key match-ups should we look forward to as the tournament progresses?
Jamie Thompson: There are several intriguing match-ups on the horizon! We’ve got titanic clashes featuring teams like Bayern Munich and Manchester City that will surely attract attention.
