The Ministry of Finance estimated that the country could save up to $250 million with the reduction of municipalities, a law proposal that was announced by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, in his 4-year management speech.

The proposal announced by the ruler establishes reducing the 262 municipalities in the country to 44. With this, the Bukele government estimates savings of up to 250 million, in salaries, administrative expenses, car purchases, rentals, bonuses, insurance and finances.

The president stated that this measure will make it possible to make a more equitable distribution of taxes, so that poor municipalities can receive more by becoming part of another conglomerate of municipalities, with better income, to carry out large works that can benefit several municipalities.

Beyond public spending, we will also have a modern State, less bureaucracy, faster, better planning and with more economic tools, assured the Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya.
