Referring the file of marriage to foreigners to the intelligence service

The Ministry of Social Affairs of the Government of National Unity announced that “the file of granting permission for Libyan men and women to marry foreigners has been referred to the Intelligence Service.”

According to a statement by the ministry, “The Marriage Approval Committee held its periodic meeting after studying the files in full and completing all the required documents, headed by the Director of the Family Development Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs in the Government of National Unity, formed by Decision No. (304) of 2023 by Minister Wafa Abu Bakr Al-Kilani.”

The statement indicated that “Law No. 15 of 1984 regarding the rules of marriage between non-Libyans and Libyans granted the legislator, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the tasks of considering this matter in Article Seven of this law.”

It is noteworthy that the committee includes in its membership the social expert at the ministry, a member of the legal affairs department at the ministry, a representative of the Libyan Intelligence Service, a representative of the Ministry of Justice, the head of the Foreign Marriage Unit in the Family Development Department at the ministry, and the social specialist in the Foreign Marriage Unit.
