Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Cabinet has approved the Online Rummy Prohibition Act. In this regard, in a press release issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu, “Regarding the Online Rummy Prohibition Act, the Government constituted a committee under the chairmanship of retired Justice K. Chanduru of the Madras High Court. The committee submitted its report on 27.06.2022. The above report was placed for the consideration of the Cabinet on the same day.

Thereafter, on the basis of a survey conducted by the School Education Department regarding the impact of online games on school students, comments received from the general public through e-mail and a consultation meeting held with stakeholders, a draft Ordinance was prepared with the advice of the Law Department and approved by the Cabinet on 29.08.2022. placed before the congregation.

In that meeting, the Ordinance has been prepared and placed in the Cabinet meeting held today (26.09.2022) and approval of the Cabinet has been obtained as per the notification that the Ordinance will be further polished and refined and placed before the Cabinet in its full form. The Ordinance will be promulgated shortly after receiving the Governor’s assent,” it said.

Earlier, a committee headed by retired Madras High Court Judge K. Chanduru was formed to study and report on the Online Rummy Prohibition Act. In this group, I.I.T. Technologist Dr. Sankararaman, Founder of Sneha Organization and Psychologist Dr. Lakshmi Vijayakumar, Additional Director of Police Vineeth Dev Wankhede were present.

The committee submitted its report to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on June 27 at the Chief Secretariat. Action to be taken on this report was discussed in the Cabinet meeting held on June 27. Following this, in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet meeting held today (September 26), the Prohibition Act was discussed and the Prohibition Act was approved.
