CULTURED
In a joint initiative between the Environment Directorate of the Prefecture of Chimborazo and the Andean Action organization, last Tuesday, April 16, a planting day was held at the Tinculoma viewpoint in the Santiago de Quito parish, in the Colta canton.
The event was attended by around 150 community members, 50 military personnel and technicians from the Provincial Council. Its main objective was to conserve water and promote vegetation in this important area.
The species selected for planting was the Yagual, a native plant adapted to high altitude climates, ideal for the environmental conditions of the province of Chimborazo. This choice not only seeks to restore the local ecosystem, but also contribute to the biological diversity of the region. With this action, we seek to achieve the goal of planting one million trees in the province, reflecting the commitment of local authorities and the community in the fight against climate change and the protection of natural resources. Reforestation is positioned as a key strategy to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve air quality, conserve soil and guarantee water supply for future generations. The importance of citizen participation and collaboration between different sectors is highlighted to achieve a positive impact on the environment. The community is invited to join these initiatives and take care of the environment, recognizing that together we can make a difference in building a sustainable future for Chimborazo and the planet.
