The Provincial Court of Camagüey has issued its rulings on the young people participating in the protests that occurred in Nuevitas in August 2022.

Following a pattern similar to previous cases, such as the protests of July 11, 2021, the regime has decided to impose prison sentences ranging from four to 15 years.

One of the notable cases is that of Mayelín Rodríguez Prado, known on social networks as “La Chamaca del Chamaco”, a 23-year-old young woman who broadcast the protests through her Facebook profile. For these acts, the court has sentenced her to 15 years in prison, accused of enemy propaganda and sedition.

José Armando Torrente Muñoz has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for alleged crimes of sedition, attack and resistance. Jimmy Jhonson Agosto and Ediolvis Marin Mora will face 13 years in prison for sedition and sabotage, while Lisdán Cabrera Batista will serve 11 years for similar charges and other acts against State Security.

Those accused of sedition, Fray Pascual Claro Valladares, Davier Leyva Vélez, Keiler Velázquez Medina, Menkel de Jesús Menéndez Vargas, Frank Alberto Carreón Suárez and Lázaro Alejandro Pérez Agosto have been sentenced to 10 years in prison each.

According to information provided by activist Marcel Valdés, Fray Pascual tried to take his life upon learning of his sentence while he was detained in the Cerámica Roja prison. However, his mother, Yanelis Valladares Jaime, has been acquitted due to the lack of evidence against her.

The list of those convicted also includes Yennis Artola del Sol, who will face eight years in prison for enemy propaganda, and Wilker Álvarez Ramírez, sentenced to four years for concealment.
