jpnn.comJAKABARING – Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament Concerned Community Forum (Formappi) Lucius Karus assessed that the National Police had worked according to the corridors in maintaining security in the political year, especially the regional elections.
“I think in general, if we measure it, regarding security and order in the implementation of yesterday’s regional elections, I don’t think there were any very serious problems that arose from the security aspect,” said Lucius in a statement, Tuesday (31/12).
Regarding the issue of non-neutrality of law enforcement officials that developed in the regional elections, Lucius believes this was created by regional head candidates for political interests.
So, in this case, the National Police became victims of competition between competing regional head candidates.
“The National Police has a duty to provide security in the process of holding elections, which is very likely to become an object that can be accused of committing violations by certain parties,” said Lucius.
Apart from the issue of neutrality, Lucius also believes that the criticism that comes regarding the role of the National Police outside of its main duties and functions is something that is always subject to internal evaluation.
“It is possible that many people’s allegations that the Polri’s work is not in accordance with its main duties and functions are just an expression of disappointment. In principle, the security of the regional elections should have proven that the Polri’s work is correct,” he said.
Despite the criticism that came, Lucius revealed evidence that the National Police’s performance in maintaining security was good, from the process of determining candidates by the KPU running smoothly.
The National Police is considered to be working according to its corridors in securing the 2024 General Election and Pilkada.
