“I call on the inhabitants of the regions where the elections are currently taking place, to participate”, launched Mr. Putin in a video released by the Kremlin.

“Especially since the electoral procedures are organized in our country in the most comfortable way possible,” added the Russian president, sitting in front of a computer in his office.

Regional elections in Russia, organized to appoint governors, regional deputies and elected municipal officials, are spread over three days in the country – from Friday to Sunday, in order to allow as many voters as possible to vote, according to the authorities.

Online voting is also possible in several Russian regions, including the capital, Moscow.

This year, Russia also organized the vote in four Ukrainian regions under its control — Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Lugansk.

“I hope that each of you will demonstrate a responsible civil approach,” underlined Mr. Putin, before making his choice online.

“Thank you, you have voted successfully!”, we could then read on the panel displayed on his computer screen.

Sunday is considered the main day of these regional elections, traditionally due to a larger influx of voters.

The first results should be announced overnight from Sunday to Monday, according to the Central Election Commission.
