The X Africa Week and the III International Meeting of the African Diaspora on African Studies takes place from the 22nd to the 26th of May, at the Malês campus of the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia in São Francisco do Conde. In 2023, these events have as their theme “The year of AFCTA: Accelerating the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area”. Conferences, presentations by working groups, round tables, as well as cultural activities make up the event’s program, which is being organized by the Association of Students and Friends of Africa (ASEA), in partnership with the Center for African Studies at Unilab/BA and other partners and collaborators.

Entries to participate in the event must be made using the electronic form, which is available at in this link. After filling in, those interested will receive the information, with links and locations of activities. To guarantee the certification, it will be necessary to participate and sign the attendance list. The certificate with the full workload (50 hours) will depend on participation in at least 75% of the activities.

The X Week of Africa and the III International Meeting of the African Diaspora on African Studies have as their objectives the dissemination of knowledge produced by Unilab, of cultural and social values, among others, fostering political and academic debates aimed at the emancipation of the African continent, the its diaspora and the Brazilian State. In this way, it seeks to contribute to the self-assertion, self-valorization and self-recognition of black people.

The organizing committee of the event published public callfor those interested in submitting papers, which must be submitted by May 15th by email: [email protected]. Participation is open to the Unilab community and other universities and institutions.

For the presentation of research, the academic committee will select papers based on the following axes:

1 – Economic development, social security and peace in Continental Africa and its diasporas;
2 – African renaissance, reafricanization, liberation and autonomy of African peoples on the continent and in its diasporas;
3 – Thinking about globalization from Africa, (of) free trade zones in Africa, African states and (neo)colonization;
4 – Sexuality, race and territory as emerging themes in Africa;
5 – African woman, gender, sexuality, corporeality and epistemologies of African and Afro-diasporic ancestry;
6 – Pan-Africanism, social movements, ancestral technologies, identities and process of (re)ontologization of subjects.
