Haaland assist when Foden became a hat trick hero

Erling Braut Haaland went off the field goalless as Manchester City turned to a 3-1 victory away to Brentford on Monday evening.

For the first time since December 6, the Norwegian was back in the lineup for last year’s league champions after a small fracture in his foot, but the Norwegian star forward still has to score his first goal since the injury layoff.

The Norwegian was cleared after 24 minutes, but alone with a Brenford goalkeeper Mark Flekken, Haaland missed.

A good Flekken lasted alone with a total of nine saves in the first half, in addition to the first goalkeeper assist of the season when he played Neal Maupay free from five meters.

Alone with the City goalkeeper, Maupay sent the hosts into the lead, before Phil Foden equalized two minutes into extra time in the first half.

Seven minutes after switching sides, Foden completed the turnaround when he made it 2-1 and 20 minutes before full time the 23-year-old completed his second career hat trick.

Haaland received the ball the wrong way in the penalty area and played on to Foden, who weaved his way through the Brentford defense and made it 3-1 after brilliant attacking play.

Manchester City thus climbs past Arsenal in the table on better goal difference and is in second place, two points behind league leader Liverpool with a game less played.
