During a press briefing following his talks with the National Security Advisor of the Republic of Iraq, Qassem Al-Araji, the minister indicated that this meeting was an opportunity “to convey the considers that His Majesty King Mohammed VI bears to the Iraqi authorities and to congratulate Iraq for everything it has accomplished in recent years in terms of stability and development thanks to its leadership and its people”, adding that the Iraq has made significant progress towards recover its security, its stability, and establish its sovereignty over its entire territory and preserve the unity of its people.
He recalled that “Moroccans have never forgotten that Iraq was the first Arab country to recognize the independence of Morocco in 1956, and that the Iraqi flag was present alongside the Moroccan flag during the Green March in 1975”.
Mr. Bourita also recalled the mechanisms governing bilateral relations, in particular, political dialogue and the joint commission, which will be used to take advantage of the numerous opportunities offered by relations between the two countries, which still remain unexploited in the areas of trade, investment and tourism.
The discussions also focused on several regional issues, notably the situation in Syria, Palestine and Lebanon, he noted, noting the convergence of points of view between the two parties on all these issues.
Mr. Bourita noted that the next Arab summit planned in Iraq will be an opportunity to address all these questions, emphasizing Morocco’s support for all the preparations carried out by Iraq to ensure the success of this summit, both level of the organization as conclusions, given that “the Arab world is going through a crucial period, and the Baghdad summit will be an important step in supporting these transformations”.
