The Prosecutor’s Office investigates the intellectual authors and possible omissions of the murder of Fernando Villavicencio.

After the sentencing of the material authors of the murder of Fernando Villavicencio, the relatives and their lawyers await the punishment of the intellectual authors of this crime.

The Prosecutor’s Office has an investigation open to locate the intellectual authors of the crime and another to identify possible omissions.

On the afternoon of this Friday, July 12, the Court of the case handed down a sentence against the five accused as material authors of the murder of Fernando Villavicencio.

Based on the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, the Court unanimously declared the guilt of Carlos Edwin AL, alias ‘Invisible’, as the direct perpetrator and sentenced him to an aggravated sentence of 34 years and 8 months of deprivation of liberty.

The Criminal Court issued the same sentence for Laura Dayanara CV, whom it declared guilty of the murder of the former presidential candidate, as a co-author.

Erick R., Víctor F. and Alexandra Ch. are found guilty as accomplices to the murder. The Court imposes a sentence of 12 years in prison, a fine of 340 salaries and payment of comprehensive reparation of $33,000 each.

Regarding comprehensive reparation, the Court determines that 90% must be paid to the particular accusations and the remaining 10% must be divided among the indirect victims. In addition, it ratifies the protection measures dictated in the hearing to formulate charges.

The murder of Fernando Villavicencio occurred on August 9, 2023, after leaving a political meeting, in the north of Quito.

Amanda and Tamia Villavicenciodaughters of the former presidential candidate, published their reaction to the sentence on their X account.

“Today we took the first step in the fight for justice for our father, Fernando Villavicencio,” he said.

And he added: “We do not forget the intellectual authors, accomplices and omissions of the State. “If we allow impunity, no one in Ecuador will be safe.”

In a previous post he expressed: “We need to know NOW who the intellectual authors are and that the complicit officials be punished.”

Alexandra VillavicencioFernando’s sister, stated: “There has been an entire invisible criminal structure, we want justice to continue to be done, we hope that the intellectual authors are also judged.”

Hugo Espínlawyer of Veronica Sarauzwidow of Fernando Villavicencio, declared that there are several findings in the testimonies and investigations of the case.

Espín expressed that it has been shown that the murder responds to a “megaestructura criminal” and that the only way that this investigation can be finished is to reach the intellectual authorship.

He said they expect international criminal collaboration.
